Guest Katie Wallace: Educator, Brand Storyteller, Copywriter
Telling a story is one of the most powerful ways to get people to connect with your brand, but what if you feel like your story isn’t interesting or like you have nothing to say? A lot of people struggle with this, but it’s simply not true! Storytelling is such an important aspect of growing your brand. Stories create emotion, and emotion sparks action!
Today, I’m talking with Katie Wallace, longtime friend of mine and jack-of-all-trades writer, with journalism being her foundation. Katie is a brand storytelling wizard, and she is sharing her best brand storytelling tips about why you need it, where you need it, and how to do it.
Check out a summary of Katie’s top tips!
The five W’s are your basic building blocks for any story
Who, what, where, when, and why; these five Ws that you might have learned as far back as grade school are still fundamental when trying to tell a story! Katie has pared this down to the even simpler three Ps: person, place, and problem.
Show, don’t tell
The more specific you get, the better! Sensory input is one of the best ways to get readers to connect with your story.
Open with your best stuff with the inverted pyramid writing technique
Picture an inverted pyramid, the top is where you want all your important stuff goes. Cut things first from the bottom that houses the less important info.
Editing is your best friend
When you’re done writing, always run your work through some sort of spell-check. Both Katie and I love Grammarly.
Pay attention, you’ll start to see stories everywhere in your life
Katie is offering my listeners a free copy of her e-book, 15 Brand Stories You Can Tell Today. Check it out and get started!
