3 Ways to Nail Your Product Photography

Did you know that 93% of consumers say that they will decide to purchase a product online based on a photo alone?!

Mind. Blown.

If that stat doesn’t convince you that taking stunning photos of your product should be a priority, I don’t know what will! A great photo that showcases the true quality of your product will have customers clicking “add to cart” and feeling confident that your product will show up just as presented.

Don’t let dull, dark, and blurry photos be the first impression a customer makes of your business. With these 3 tips, you can nail your product photography and stand out in the crowd.

1. Create your own light box.

No, you do not need to buy a fancy prefab lightbox online, you likely already have everything you need at your fingertips! With a basic understanding of the different types of light and how they work, you can have this in the bag… I mean… box!

There are 4 main steps when it comes to creating an effective lightbox:

  1. Locate a light source – natural light is key!
  2. Find the direction of the sun – this is key to understanding where your shadows will show up.
  3. Place reflectors – bounce that light right back at the product to reduce shadows
  4. Place product – you know, that beautiful thing you are trying to sell to the world
  5. Take photo – *click*

3.Use your smartphone

Yes, I know that might sound odd coming from a professional photographer but I am going to let you in on a little secret…. Smartphones take great photos! Using a smartphone does have it’s limits and nothing beats the control you have with a DSLR camera but the convenience of that little computer in your pocket will ensure that you do the job. Reducing the barriers to just taking the photo is a win.
